In this class (Class 23, to be held on Sunday, June 23rd at 9:30 am PST), we discuss verses 2.66-2.72 of the Bhagavad Gita.

Study Questions:

1. According to Sri Ramanuja, how does verse 2.61 ("tāni sarvāṇi saṁyamya...") hold the key to understanding the surrounding verses 2.60 and 2.62-65? (Ramanuja's commentary on verses 2.60–65 are contained in pp. 31–33 of the PDF of the srimatham.com translation.)

2. Do you think Ramanuja's and Sri Aurobindo's interpretations of verses 2.60–65 are complementary or conflicting? Why or why not?

3. According to verse 2.66 of the Gita ("nāsti buddhir ayuktasya..."), how do we achieve true happiness (sukham)? As far as I can tell, Sri Aurobindo himself does not actually comment on this verse, but Swami Tapasyananda has provided a helpful commentary on 2.66 (on p. 82, note 15 of his book). After reading Swami Tapasyananda's commentary and thinking about verse 2.66 for yourself, please summarize Swami Tapasyananda's interpretation and then answer in your own way how you think 2.66 teaches us to achieve true happiness.

4. After reading Sri Aurobindo's commentary on verse 2.70 of the Gita ("āpūryamānam..."), please explain how you think this verse can be helpful to us as spiritual aspirants.

5. Do you have any questions about the reading? Did you have difficulty understanding anything? Do you have any doubts or confusions?
